Although I was raised in the city, I spend part of my childhood in the country side, visiting my grandma´ . And my grandma´ knows everything related to plants and how to use them ! And even though I was not interested to learn about plants I heard it so many times that I learned involuntarily.
My secret weapon is : plantago major ! Or as they say on wikipedia : “broadleaf plantain” or “greater plantain” !
My grandma´ would use this for fresh wounds, burns and sprained joints ! You get some leafs from the plant, wash it, cut it a bit and put it on the joint that hurts. Wrap it up with some bandage and keep it there for as long as it is comfortable. Take it out, wash the area and repeat the next day !
Wikipedia says : “Scientific studies have shown that plantain extract has a wide range of biological effects, including “wound healing activity, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, weak antibiotic, immuno modulating and antiulcerogenic activity”” , confirming what my grandma´ thought me !
I am doubling this with usage of some anti inflammatory creams so hopefully my foot will get back to normal soon.
As the season for plantago major is kind of finishing, I know for a fact that you can get the same effect with plain old cabbage.
